Reforestation – Tupe

Reforestation is a crucial mission for our association. We have been working tirelessly since 2013 to restore small parts of the Amazon rainforest, one project at a time. Despite the challenges we face, we remain committed to our goal of restoring the Amazon and improving the lives of local communities.

We take a unique and effective approach to reforestation, focusing on learning by doing. While we may not have fancy equipment or professional training, we have years of experience, the support of indigenous people, and a passion for the work we do. We’ve seen firsthand the transformative power of reforestation and the positive impact it can have on local ecosystems and communities.

In our reforestation efforts, we cover barren and eroded land with organic material, like wild grasses containing seeds, to reduce the impact of rainfall and direct heat and facilitate the growth of insects and other organisms. We then plant a variety of palm trees and other plants with strong, broad roots that can further stabilize the soil. While we sometimes use bamboo, which grows quickly and provides excellent initial protection against erosion, we recognize that it can be suboptimal in the long run, as it doesn’t allow other plants to grow nearby. To address this, we carefully monitor the bamboo and replace it with other plants as needed to ensure the continued growth and health of the plantations.

We are committed to engaging local communities in our reforestation efforts, providing paid work opportunities for them and ensuring that they have a stake in the success of our projects. To continue our work, we need your support. Donations will help us cover costs such as the workforce of local people, gasoline and oil for tools, buying young trees and plants, buying seeds, and buying material to protect the new plantation. Every small contribution can make a difference, and we are grateful for any support we receive.
